Steampunk Cosplay Blog
Welcome To our Steampunk Cosplay Blog
With many cosplay genres to choose from, because Steampunk is one of the best, Our cosplay blog is about steampunk! Steampunk is science fiction combined with the 19th century Pre-Victorian era. As a result of such a generalized description, the cosplayer’s free from being hindered by unnecessary rules and specifics!
Say for example you decided upon a comic book or anime cosplay genre, your limited to some very specific rules to match the costume! While this could be acceptable for a starting out Cosplayer, our cosplay blog sides more with options and free flowing creativity!
The Three Common Artifacts of Steampunk
Our Cosplay blog has identified the three most common items to be:
- Top Hat
The even better thing is that neither of these 3 is in any way the S on Superman’s costume. As a result of the genres flexibility, you still are not bound to have any of these in your costume. Of coarse who wouldn’t want a really cool pair of goggles and a snazzy tophat? 😱😜 The theme to the madness that is your costume, and the role of your character, is entirely of your own creation!
While it is true most of the items and accessories of a Steampunk costume, many die hards will tell you DIY is the bread and butter of Steampunk.
Assembling Your Costume
Because of Steampunk’s versatility, it supports all manner of budgets! You can put as little, or as much into Steampunk as you want! If you’re a girl that loves to accessorize down to the down to the finest detail. Anything from makeup, nails , hairstyles, because of Steampunk’s popularity, there is something for everyone!
Steampunk style nails come in multitudes of varieties and colors! When fashioning together your own design you can choose any color, patterns and designs. You can even glue on and add ons such as sprockets and cute little goggles!
Just because you don’t have a skillful painters hand for patterns no worries. Because they have plenty of decal plates that are inexpensive. A real simple but quality looking example I found made by a female blogger with pen name “LittleNuclearReactor”. She used a MoYou London Steampunk 02 plate. You can view her blog at this link
If you wanna see a pro in action check out this video of StarryNail’s fingernail artwork!
Goggles Budget or Baller Status
Despite no piece of attire being a mandated requirement, at some point in the Steampunk realm, you’ll want Goggles.(Goggleslook freakin cool! 😍😘) Once you’ve decided on implementing goggles into your costume, the question is how much you want to spend, or are able to!
Goggles on a budget
Being broke myself, of coarse I wouldn’t leave budget shoppers hanging in my Steampunk Cosplay Blog! Because Steampunk has such a massive following, there are quite a few comprehensive tutorials as far as making your own, cheaply and inexpensively!
These goggles made by Darren of Darren Was Here seemed innovative and affordable. Darren made them with a mix of easily acquired, and inexpensive items. With just a simple dollar tree pair of safety goggles, and some frozen orange juice canisters, the end result can be remarkable! Full Tutorial Here
Quality Goggles Great Price!
Not everyone into steampunk fashion is necessarily looking to make their costume themselves. If you’re looking to acquire some goggles quickly and painlessly at a great price, check out Steampunk By Ben.
Ben’s prices are fair ranging from 9-30$. Definitely a steal in my opinion! One of my favorite pairs I’ve seen was made by Cyanida. She specializes in a variety of things, and her medals are really cool as well!
Your Top Hat
The token top hat! I fell in love with these things because of the planters peanut guy from the very beginning! My first thought was that a hat isn’t something you’d be able to innovate on your own. However I certainly was mistaken!
Chris Huebert’s DIY Tophat
Surprisingly enough, you can make your own top hat and not turn out like the mad hatter from “Alice in Wonderland”. Chris Huebert of Gumroad offers a do it yourself top hat that doesn’t involve mercury poison! It is a little bit time consuming but very much affordable!
Cute Hand Crafted Hat and Outfit Additions
A friend of mine Teressa Roden, makes several different Steampunk items with her crochet abilities. Items like these can be added to your hat or outfit 😍😍😍 Check out her Facebook Fanpage!
Purchasing a top hat
Steampunk by ben has quite a few reasonably priced hats. If you have some money to spend I have seen some rather amazing hats as a result of trolling Pinterest and Tumblr, these 3 little gems I found were between 50-70 dollars, which isn’t to bad, but are some of the most colorful I found!
It certainely is possible to make your own corset. However, being that a corsetière is looked upon as a trade skill, and not something I think I could cover mastery of in a youtube video! 😜 When it comes to purchasing a corset, one can be purchased for as little as 20 dollars, and some of them can be as high as several thousand dollars.
If you are looking for a quality Steampunk corset, generally all quality corset’s are steel boned. Here at The Burlesque Baller, we have several Corsets to choose from. Some of them are decorative and costuming, and others are high end steel boned corsets. One of my favorite Corset companies, and our newest distributor, who we are lucky enough to have recently acquired is Timeless Trends.
I first discovered the Timeless Trend’s corset collection by word of mouth from a tenured burlesque. They are definetely one of the best corset suppliers in the industry. Sure, there are higher end ones available, but if your not looking to have one custom tailored, they offer some of the best!
When you’re shopping for higher end corsets, being able to determine the proper size corset can be difficult. This is why we offer a corset calculator to help you in ordering the proper size, as well as offer a great exchange policy! 😘 Our Corset Sizing Guide!
Steampunk Shoes and Boots
When it comes to shoes and boots themed specifically for costuming there are many different brands. The three of the best brands I’ve seen are Pleaser(and it’s sister brand Funtasma), Ellie Shoes, and Hades Footwear. Obviously because these brands are some of the best in the industry, I went out of my way to provide all three of them!
